Recovery Month Celebration
September is National Recovery Month. LIRA hosts recovery month events every year. In the past we have held educational events by partnering with the Nassau Community College. We held these well attended educational events each September from 2003-2008. Since 2009 we have held a Rock N Recovery celebration each year in our communities including Babylon, Deer Park and Huntington.
Each year attendees enjoy networking, dancing. raffle prizes and a sumptuous buffet during a night of celebration, while honoring Friends of Recovery and awarding scholarships.
These Recovery Community Scholarship Awards (RCSA) help support deserving individuals from our community with educational goals and personal needs. To date LIRA has awarded a total of $11,000.00 in scholarships.
THRIVE Recovery Center
Our long term goal of establishing a Recovery Center became a reality when LIRA invited community partners LICADD, FIST and FCA to collaborate on a grant application submitted under the FCA umbrella to OASAS which was the awarded in the fall of 2016. The THRIVE Center opened its doors on March 4, 2017 in Islandia.
he partner groups hit the ground running to make THRIVE a community gathering place with access and/or referrals to all recovery related support services including and primarily peer to peer supports: housing, clothing, food, treatment and medical referrals, family supports, educational and training opportunities, employment assistance, legal and financial help as well as health and wellness classes and mutual support groups. The THRIVE center will serve as a comprehensive clearing house for recovery information and will help individuals and families with resources to help prevent relapse, navigate obstacles and strengthen recovery bonds.
THRIVE is fully staffed with a Program Manager, several recovery coaches (CRPA’s) and administrative staff members along with volunteers LIRA has an office on site and provides peer recovery support services/recovery coaching. We will continue to train coaches, 3-4 classes per year and host our monthly Peer Learning Collaborative (PLC) providing supervision, peer support, training, resources and a job bank.
